Date of publication: 2009

In a nutshell: With Community for Health funding, Corby Borough Council has commissioned a mobile health clinic to tackle health inequalities in the borough.  A fully equipped bus visits residents where they live, work or go shopping to offer a review of their overall health.  People are also signposted to healthcare or other support services that they may need.  The clinic provides people with a printed record of their health-check readings on: weight, blood pressure, blood glucose and body-mass index (BMI).  The clinic then offers appropriate health advice. This is often about weight control:  staff trained by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) offer weekly weigh-ins, dietary advice, and sample menus and recipes.
